Due to traditional Confucianism, discussions of sexualiaty for older adults have been tabooed in Korea. It is very important to establish an education and counseling system for older adults so that they have proper and healthy perceptions of sexuality and competencies to solve their sexual problems. The purpose of this study is to examine the experience of counselors in sexuality education and counseling for older adults in Gyeonggi-do, Korea, which is designed to raise awareness of sexuality for older adults, to analyze perceptions of sexuality in older adults, and to propose future plans for education and counseling programs for senior citizens. This study adopted qualitative research methodology and conducted FGI(Focus Group Interview) for sexuality education counselors in Gyeonggi-do. A total of 14 counselors were selected for this study. According to the results, gender awareness of older adults was quite low and the participants remains holding traditional perspectives toward sex. While sexuality education and counseling program appeared to raise self-esteem and advance sound understanding of sexuality in older adults, it did not improve gender awareness itself. In consideration of the results, this study suggest future directions in sexuality education and counseling programs for older adults.
